The following is a list of aircraft, gathered from the Customs’ files at the National Archives, whose departure seems to have been unduly delayed. Whereas usually they would depart the same day, or early the following morning, the aircraft listed below made a two- or three- day stop, without any valid reason being listed.

Aircraft, whose date is not in bold red type, where transferred from the 1940s accident page.

24-27.01.47 A. York Skyways Ltd. G-AHFI Christened “Skyway”. Night stop between 20/21 on its flight to Karachi. Three-day stop-over on the return journey.
25-27.01.47 A. York Skyways Ltd G-AHLV Named “Sky Courier”. Arrived from the UK for Cairo on the 23rd. Two-day lay-over on the return journey.
25-27.01.47 A. York BOAC G-AGSN Fleet name “Marlow”, arrived on the 20th on its way to Calcutta. Two-day stay on the return journey
25.01-01.02.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGKL Arrived from the UK for Cairo between 23/24th. Seven-day stop-over on the return journey.
28-30.01.47 A. Lancastrian BAS Ltd. G-AHBT Fleet name “City of New York”. Two-day stop-over on its way to Tripoli.
02-05.02.47 DC-3 Silver City Airways G-AIRH Arrived from Izmir, Turkey.
03.02.47 A. York Skyways G-AHLV Arrived from Karachi at 05:10, meant to depart at 07:15. Departed on the 5th at 07:10.
03.02.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGMZ Originally arrived from the UK for Cairo between 01-02. Returned on the 3rd, departing on the 5th.
03-05.02.47 A. York BOAC G-AGSN Fleet name “Marlow”. Arrived from the UK on 29.01.47 for Cairo.
03.02.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGKI Arrived from the UK between 01-02, bound for Lydda. Returned on the 3rd, departing on the 5th.
05-08.02.47 L. Hudson BOAC G-AGBX Arrived from the UK for Cairo.
07.02.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGNF Night stop between the 5-6th, heading for Almaza, Egypt. Returned on the the7th, departing on the 9th.
07.02.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGKL Night stop between the 5-6th, heading for Lydda. Returned on the 7th, departing on the 9th.
08.02.47 A. Lancastrian BOAC G-AGLY Arrived from the UK on the 8th, bound for Karachi. Departed Malta on the 10th.
10.02.47 DC-3 Silver City Airways G-AIRG Arrived for a night stop between 21/22.01.47 on its way to Rangoon. On its return, there was this note in Customs’ file 13/IA-01 vide declaration ___ Practique. Departed on the 13th.
18-20.02.47 B. 170 The Bristol Aeroplane Co. G-AGVB Fleet name “Carmen”. Arrived on a charter flight to South Africa between 31.01.47/01.02.47. Three-day lay over on the return flight.
21.02.47 A. Lancastrian BOAC G-AGLT Fleet name “Newcastle”. Arrived from Lydda, departing on the 23rd.
28.02.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGKI Arrived from the UK for Cairo between 26/27 February for Cairo, returning on the 28th. Departure date 1st at 03:55 crossed out, replaced by 2nd at 04:40.
25.03.47 HP Halifax BOAC PP272 Arrived the previous day on a training flight. Departed at unknown time, but returned at 12:20. Eventually left Malta on the 27th at 06:25.
15.04.47 A. York BOAC G-AGJC Arrived from the UK on the 11th for Karachi, returned on the 15th at 14.22. Departed on the 17th at 09:25, no reason given for the three-day lay-over.
24.04.47 A. York BOAC G-AGOE Refuelling stop between 21:45-23:10. Returned for unknown reasons, departing at 01:00 on the 25th.
12.05.47 A. York BOAC G-AHFI Arrived the previous day at 12:50. Left Malta at 02:15 but returned for unknown reasons at 03:15. Departed at 09:20.
22.05.47 DH Dove   G-AHRB Scheduled for 14:00, the entry had cancelled written over it.
20.09.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGKE Arrived from the UK between the 17/18th. Returned as 30M568. Customs’ file 12/IA-03D carried the following note: 7 passengers transferred to (DC-3) G-AIOF. Departed Malta on the 22nd.
25.09.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGNE Night stop between the 23/24 to Cairo, returning on the 25th at 16:00. Departed for the UK on the 27th at 04:45.
25.09.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGNF Night stop between the 23/24 to Cairo, returning on the 25th at 17:32. Departed for the UK on the 27th at 06:25.
28.09.47 DC-3 Silver City Airways G-AJAU Fleet name “City of Newton”. Arrived on a UK-Malta-UK flight at 23:25. Returned to the UK on the 30th at 09:15.
04.10.47 Lockheed 12 BAS G-AJAW Arrived from the UK at 19:35. Departure on the 5th cancelled, departing on the 6th at 11:52
06-08.10.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGZC Three-day stop-over on flight to Cairo, c/s 1XD3.
12.10.47 Airspeed Consul Instone Airlines 1946 Ltd. G-AIOM One of a number of Consuls operating between Malta and Libya, Tunis, Sicily and Italy. Departure on this day at 11:15 crossed out, departed on the 13th.
17-19.10.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGHH One of a number of aircraft that went to Karachi, India, to help transfer people who got caught on the wrong side of the border after India’s granting of independence in September 1947. Usually aircraft arrived and departed after a few hours. Landed at 18:05, departed at 04:59.
17-19.10.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGHE As ‘HH above. Landed at 19:35, departed at 05:22.
19.10.47 Ai. Consul Instone Airlines 1946 Ltd. G-AIOM Flight to Rome at 14:35 crossed out, replaced with 20th at 09:50.
13.11.47 A. York Skyways Ltd. G-AHLV Arrived from the UK to Lydda on the 11th, returning on the 13th. Departure date crossed out in custom files, without any reason given. Eventually left on the 16th.
10-12.12.47 DC-4 Skyways Ltd G-AJPO One of four, consecutively-registered DC-4s (G-AJPL-O). Arrived on a flight to Kuwait between 08/09, returning on the 10th at 20:55, staying for 2 days. Aircraft would usually spend 3-4 hours before departing.
17.12.47 Lockheed 14 Super Electra Universal flying services Ltd. G-AGBG Arrived from the UK on 30.11.47, bound for South Africa. Left on 1st Dec. (Note in Custom file 12 states “Delayed”, but no departure time given.) Returned on the 17th, with departure date of the 18th crossed out. Departed for the UK on the 19th.
18.12.47 DC-3 BOAC G-AGKL Arrived from the UK for a night stop between 16/17 for Lydda, flight number 37M77. Returned on the 18th as 38M77, with 1 passenger for Malta and 4 in transit. Departed w/o passengers on the 20th.
03.01.48 HP Halifax London Aero & Motor Services Ltd G-AIWJ Landed at 07:15 heading for Tanzania. Departed on the 5th.
03.01.48 DC-4 Skyways Ltd. G-AJPN Arrived at 18:00, c/s 14KV (may not be complete flight number) Departure date 4th crossed out, departing on the 5th at 03:00.
17.01.48 V. Viking Air Safaris G-AJFT Originally made a night stop between 09/10 on its way to Rhodesia (today’s Zimbabwe). Landed at Luqa at 16:00 on its return flight, c/s PBU 94/2, with 3 passengers for Malta and 7 in transit. Left on the 19th at 06:35 without passengers.
17.01.48 DC-3 BOAC G-AGNC Arrived at 20:32 as 29M662 with 10 passengers in transit. Departed at 04:00 on the 19th without passengers.
29.08.48 A. York Skyways Ltd. G-AHFI Arrived on the 28th, destination Malaya. Departure on the 29th crossed out with no reason given. Aircraft departed on 1st September. Aircraft christened “Skyway”.
01.08.49 DH Dove Silver City A/Ws G-AIWF Arrived from Catania on 30.07.49 at 18:15. Nothing under “Remarks” in Custom records to indicate any problems, but departure date/time of 1st Aug at 07:30 replaced by 4th at 06:30.
09.11.49 V. Viking 1B B.E.A. G-AIVB Arrived from the UK for Istanbul on the 8th. Departure on the 9th at 06:45 crossed out. Left on the 10th.
02.12.49 V. Viking 1 Hunting Clan Transport G-AHPI Aircraft was on a UK-Malta-UK flight landing on the 1st at 19:20. Nothing in Custom files about technical problems, departed on the 3rd at 10:00.
13-15.12.49 V. Viking Airwork Ltd. G-AKTV Aircraft arrived at 17:50 with 24 passengers in transit, but departed without them at 07:03. No notes in custom files, but unusual for aircraft to stay for three days.
