Ferry flights

Whereas delivery flights are usually aircraft being flown to new owners, aircraft on ferry flights remain the property of their owners.

Giving the operator, and the aircraft being equipped with a Magnetic anomaly detector in the tail, these would have been ferry flights on its way to the assigned country.

Beech D18S Libyan American Oil Co. N1827D Arrived from Benina, Libya on 29.07.62 14:20 departing afterwards for Rome. Flight number given as Ferry 1. c/n A-827. Later re-registered as N486F, and seen at MIACO at Hal-Far.
Beech D18   N5967C Ex Air Libya (probably leased), delivery to the USA. At Luqa on 24.09.70, departure date? c/n A-842. Registration with the Bailey Leasing Corp. cancelled on 22.02.71.
Beech AT-11   N69574 Night stop between 30-31.08.56, landing at 20:30, departing at 11:05. Arrived via Keflavik & Blackbushe, for Juba, Sudan. c/n 3239. Operator not listed in Custom records, but http://www.warbirdsdirectory.goodall.com.au/beech18-production/beech18-part-1.pdf gives it as Aero Survey Corp, outfitted for magnetometer mineral aerial survey work. Also registered as ZS-CFN to African Surveys Ply Ltd. in 1957.

Also leased to TUIfly as D-ATYG, reverting to G-OBYG after end of lease.

DH Flamingo B.O.A.C. G-AGBY Delivered via Gibraltar and Malta for operations in Egypt, circa 1941/42. One of at least eight such aircraft, including G-AFYE & K.  
DHC-4A Flightworks N238PT Landed on 18.08.17, returning from a short-term lease in Africa. c/n 238. Aircraft was originally delivered to the Kenya AF via Malta on 08.12.65. It was then flown to Malta again on 28.06.87 as 5Y-BEV, for overhauls by the NCA company. Re-registered N96NC, it was configured as an aerial spray dispersant demonstrator, and again re-registered as 5B-CIN between 11/93 – 04/94, before reverting to N96NC. Aircraft was being ferried on dry lease to Trans Maldivian Airways, and is expected to be modified with floats for water operations. Also expected to be re-registered to 8Q for the duration of the lease. c/n 575
DHC-8-300 Piedmont A/Ls N331EN Early morning arrival, departing for Egypt after a couple of hours. c/n 279.

Dornier Do.28 Sudan Airways ST-ACO Noted at Luqa on 31.07.68. This aircraft was originally delivered in 1964, so perhaps this was a ferry flight to Germany for maintenance?

Eurocopter EC225LP S/Puma ARC Aviation VH-HGM Arrived by sea from Australia on 07.08.23, transported by road to Safi on the 9th. To be reassembled then delivered to Greece. Christened “Winifred”. Also carried code HT-477. Transported by road from Safi on 28th September.
F.27-400M 5A-DJN Arrived from Libya on 13.12.86. Spent several weeks at Luqa, being re-registered HB-AAP. (See Deliveries page.) c/n 10469.
Fairchild F.27 Saudi N747L Being delivered to Saudi Arabia, on lease to Saudi from Hughes Airwest. Landed at Luqa on 18.04.77 for a night stop. c/n 38. Aircraft was destroyed beyond repair on 03.03.78, when its undercarriage collapsed when stationary. No injuries.

Fokker 50 Tanzanian Govt. 5H-TGF Night stop between 06/07.07.21. Being flown Woensdrecht for maintenance, but did not use Malta on their return flight. c/n 20231, pi PH-JXG.
Gr. Ag-Cat Dutch Air Sprayers D-FACU Arrived on 23.02.70, in company with N8285. c/n 288 Both of these aircraft appeared to be on lease from Agrarflug. DBR on 22.08.75, no fatalities. Departure dates unknown.

HP Herald Srs. 401 British Air Ferries G-BEYE Leased to AGOCO. Departed Southend airport on 20.02.82, routing via Paris/Orly, Nice and Malta. Unknown is whether the aircraft night stopped along the route, or possible at Luqa airport. c/n 172.
Lockheed C-130H-30 Hercules Royal Saudi Air Force 1631 Support aircraft for the Saudi Hawks aerobatic team which made a technical stop at Luqa on their way back home from the Enfidha airshow (Tunisia) on 19.10.22.

Mi-8   UR-HZL Arrived from Djerba on 28.07.23 departing after a re-fuelling stop for Slovakia for the fitting of fire-fighting equipment. Then onto Greece for firefighting duties.
